The new Head of EUBAM in a familiarization visit to the Border Police

s1The Head of the Border Police, Dorin PURICE met with the new Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), Francesco BASTAGLI, accompanied by the political advisor of the EU Delegation in Republic of Moldova, Mindaugas KAČERAUSKIS.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the bilateral cooperation and views on further cooperation.

The Head of Border Police informed the European officials about the latest developments in Border Police reformation in Moldova's European aspirations context, noting the powers ascribed to the institution as a result of the reorganization.

Dorin PURICE specified that the Border Police is currently involved in finalizing the National Action Plan for the implementation of the RM-EU Association Agreement for the years 2014 - 2016. "The contents of the Action Plan, with the reference to section border management, determines us to move to a new level of relationships with European partners to take over the best practices. It also confirms that the cooperation relationships with EUBAM remain to be a priority for the coming years, "concluded the Head of the Border Police.

NOTE: Mr. Francesco Bastagli was appointed as Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine on 29 March 2014. The former Assistant of the Secretary General of the United Nations Organization between 2005-2006, Mr. Bastagli held the position of Special Representative of Kofi Annan for Western Sahara. Before that, activated as Deputy Head of United Nations Mission in Kosovo (2002-2005) and UN Resident Coordinator in Islamic Republic of Iran (1999-2002).

During his career at the UNO, Bastagli also held leadership positions in the control of crime and drugs, nuclear energy, and the Palestinian and refugee problem in Central America. Before joining EUBAM, the official was the senior adviser to the Institute for International Political Studies in Milan.
