For five months, the border policemen undertook a number of special investigative measures in the area of responsibility of the Regional Directorate "North" to identify persons who organized smuggling of tobacco products from the Republic of Moldova to Romania, over the River Prut. According to primary research in the criminal scheme were involved both Moldovan and Romanian citizens.
On the basis of initiating criminal and special investigations were the two cases of smuggling committed on December 18, 2014 and February 14, 2015, where Romanian authorities found more than 500,000 packages of cigarettes.
As a result of actions undertaken by border policemen on line of detection and apprehension of persons involved, it was possible to identify a well-organized criminal group, each member having a well defined role in the offense of smuggling of tobacco products over the River Prut. In this regard, last week, the investigations officers of the Border Police were conducted several searches at the homes of group members, and in one of them, a 32-year-old Moldovan, Cajba villager, Glodeni district, were found five parcels wrapped in black foil, ready to be transported across the border. When examining their contents were found 7,400 packs of cigarettes brand "Rocco" and three cases in which there were 1500 packages mark "Ritm". Likewise, at his home was found a firearm and ammunition held illegally.
The employees of the Border Police continues the investigation activities, with the purpose of acquiring the evidence material and retaining to all members of the criminal group, in order to attract to liability under applicable law.
