Official visit of the leadership of the Georgian Border Police in Republic of Moldova

6The Border authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia have signed today a Cooperation Plan for the years 2014-2015 which provides a set of measures aimed at developing of cooperation relationships, institutional capacities and expanding of common interest actions in combating illegal cross border activities.

During the period 26 - 29 March 2014, the Georgian Border Police delegation led by the Head of the institution, Zurab Gamezardasvili is in a working visit to the Border Police. The discussions held today with the Head of the Border Police, Dorin Purice, focused on presenting the most important events that took place in the border field during 2013 and the results achieved in countering cross-border crime, crime trends and the identification of the new opportunities to develop bilateral cooperation and exchange of experience between the border structures.

During the meeting, Dorin Purice presented to the delegation members the organizational structure of the Department and informed them about the competences that were invested in Border Police officers: the prosecution, the special investigation activities, offenses examination, forensic examination of documents, and issuance of visas in case of exceptions at border and establishing of mobile teams. Within the context, the Head of the Border Police specified that the granting of these tasks has been a crucial factor in the reform process, leading to a considerable increase of the level of the combating of the cross-border crime and an increase of the border security degree complying the European norms.

Likewise, the dialogue also was focused on the current state of the activities undertaken to achieve the objectives assumed by the border institutions in the European course of the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, being shown that currently we are the most active countries in the Eastern Partnership and the common goal - the European integration is a reason to strengthen and enhance cooperation relationships in various activity segments.
The Georgian officials praised positively the achievements and the initiatives of the development of the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova and assured a continued support and stimulation of further multidimensional relationships between the two state institutions.
The Georgian delegation visit continued with the presentation of the activity of the Documents’ Expertise Directorate and Risk Analysis Directorate as well as of the National Coordination Centre.

On the afternoon today, the representatives of the Border Police of Georgia shall have a meeting with the Minister of Interior Dorin Recean at the Ministry of Interior. Tomorrow, according to the working agenda, the guests will visit the border crossing point "Leuseni" where they are going to get acquainted with the procedures of border control fulfillment, risk analysis system, under which it operates, as well as specialized equipment for checking the travel documents.
