Over 62.000 contraband cigarettes were discovered on the night of May 27 by the officers of the Border Police Sector Lipcani. The catch was made in an action commenced by The Border Policemen, at the direction Pererita- Cotul Miculeşti, the time when there were carried out the tracking of the smugglers of the contrabandists and fired several shots.
At around 23.35, a patrol of Border Police Sector Lipcani observed floating on the Prut river a boat, in which were two unknown persons. The Border Policemen proceeded to the intercept procedure and challenged by the voice those concerned, and because they were not subject to border inspectors, the inspectors were forced to use weaponry being fired, according to law, 7 vertical shots. Even so, the persons ignored the warnings jumping into the river and went swimming in the neighboring country, where they managed to hide.
After verifying the boat were found two big boxes that contained 3123 cigarette packs of brand “Plugarul” which were raised to confiscation.
About those detected, were announced the colleagues from the Romanian Border Police in order to jointly investigate the case, identify and arrest the persons who would be guilty of attempted illegal crossings of the tobacco products.
