Over 56.000 of contraband cigarettes camouflaged in the train Ungheni- Iasi

TIGARI 6300 contraband cigarettes were found in the train that had the itinerary Ungheni- Iasi. The tobacco products were hidden in specially designated places in one of the train cars.

At the end of the last week, the officers of Special Investigations within Western Regional Directorate together with the officers of the Police Inspectorate from Ungheni during the carrying out of actions in preventing and combating smuggling of goods shipped from Moldova to Romania, organized a thorough control in the cars of the train, that circulated on the itinerary Ungheni-Iaşi.

As a result of the verification, the officers revealed 22 bags of polyethylene, which were hidden in the roof of the train car nr.1063. While examination of the packages there were found 2815 packs of cigarettes of various trademarks, with excise stamps belonging to the Republic of Moldova. The entire quantity of cigarettes was seized and transmitted at the Western Regional Directorate headquarters.

At the present moment, the investigations are continued in order to establish the circumstances and to identify people who would be guilty of smuggling . However, on that point there were heard four persons, who serve the train Ungheni- Iasi, all of them possessing Romanian citizenship.
