A new meeting for cooperation dynamization between Border Police and EUBAM

e1How were implemented solutions adopted at the first joint meeting, which were the counseling actions offered by EUBAM during 2013 and the assistance that the Border Police is going to beneficiate of during the Phase 10 of the Mission - were the topics included in the working agenda of the second joint meeting of the Border Police and Mission.

The representatives of the Border Police subdivisions and EUBAM Field Offices met today, 20 March, during a working meeting to assess the implementation process of the proposals launched at the first meeting and to set the new priorities to be more consistent in joint actions. The discussions took place in the premises of the Border Police Department.

Even in the beginning of the meeting, the head of the Border Police, Dorin Purice, mentioned the historical event for the Republic of Moldova - canceling of visas for short-term travel within the Schengen area for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, holders of biometric passports. This decision is a result of the progress made by the country of reforms implementation launched in key areas, Moldova was the first country in this respect being the first country of the Eastern Partnership which met all the conditionalities set out in the Action Plan on visa liberalization.

Dorin Purice noted that both the border institution and other subdivisions of the MIA are actively involved in finalization of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the EU- Moldova Association Agreement for the years 2014-2016, and the compartment border management determines us to progress in reforms, but also to get to a new level relationships with European partners in order to take over the best practices. In this context, cooperation with international organizations, particularly EUBAM remains a priority for the coming years.

Also, the Head of the Border Police asked for the continued support and assistance of the Mission in various segments such as: institutional capacity development, increase of service quality level, the maximum ensuring of the institutional transparency, fight against corruption and prevention measures of this scourge, improvement of the information exchange at the regional enhancement of joint team skills, regional and local coordination centers, as well as the continuous development of the patrol and joint control concept. Also was stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation at regional and local level, to ensure the continuity of projects launched and identify new areas of common interest.

In his turn, Slawomir Pichor, the Deputy Head of EUBAM, mentioned that the mission is ready to provide the necessary assistance, reiterating the support via the involvement of experts in all fields, especially mobile teams and counseling in carrying out the joint control at the border. He reiterated the support for the mechanisms identification that shall contribute to the implementation of projects in the framework of the Eastern Partnership - Integrated Border Management panel.

At the end of the meeting, the officials reiterated the need for a dynamisation and deepening of the bilateral relations between the Border Police and EUBAM in areas of common interest and agreed that the third meeting in this format to be held in the second half of June.
